What is the yard sale ordinance in Phoenix? ›

The Zoning Ordinance limits the number of yard/garage sales at any residential property (house, condominium, apartment development, etc) to two sales within a twelve month period. Each yard/garage sale may not exceed three consecutive days. Can I have a yard sale on the sidewalk or in the street?

The 127 Yard Sale is an annual event that takes place the first Thursday-Sunday in August each year. It's literally, The World's Longest Yard Sale! The route spans 6 states (Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama) and is 690 miles long.

Obtaining a Permit

Yard Sale Permits may be obtained from the Customer Service Department, located on the first floor at City Hall. A permit fee is required and information will need to be provided including the address of the sale, name of person conducting the sale, and the date of the sale.

Garage sales usually start early in the morning, around 7 a.m., and end mid-afternoon. The busiest hours of a garage sale are often between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m., before temperatures get too high. Depending on how many items you plan to sell, you may want to spread the sale out over multiple days.

Sites like YardSaleSearch.com, Gsalr.com and GarageSaleFinder.com—and their mobile apps—enable garage sale enthusiasts to browse sale listings and even map out a route of their favorites. You may also want to do a quick Facebook search to see if you have any active garage sale groups in your area.

The World's Longest Yard Sale takes place the first week of August, annually. There is no opening or closing time for individual sales along the route—each vendor chooses their “open for business” time. However, typically vendors are open by 8 a.m. and close around dark.
