White Chocolate Peppermint Bark Recipe

Here’s a quick and easy recipe on how to make peppermint bark.

You only need a few ingredients to pull off this bark recipe. And with all sales and coupons you can get on baking chips and holiday baking supplies, this Chocolate Peppermint Bark recipe is a fun, and budget-friendly Christmas treat!

Why is Peppermint Bark called bark?

Peppermint bark is a thinner layer of chocolate topped with crushed candies, nuts, cookie crumbles, etc.

The name is from a thin tree bark that you can peel off a tree and then essentially break it.

It is a figurative saying. No matter how or what you call this sweet chocolate bark, it is delicious.

How long will peppermint bark last

Peppermint bark will last up to two weeks after it is made. It must be fully set up, then transferred into an airtight container or bag. Or, if you want to store it longer, toss leftovers in the freezer.

Peppermint chocolate bark will store for 3 months in the freezer. I do suggest making sure to break it apart before you freeze. So if you want just a piece or two, you can remove it from the freezer for a quick snack.

How to make Peppermint Bark

Ingredients:

  • 11 oz White Baking Chips ( I used Ghirardelli)
  • 11 oz Milk Chocolate Baking Chips ( I used Ghirardelli)
  • 1/2 tsp Peppermint Extract
  • 12 Candy Canes

Directions:

  1. Place Candy Canes in a Food Processor and crush them.
  2. Line sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Melt Milk Chocolate in the microwave by heating at 50% for 1 minute and stirring until smooth.
  4. Pour milk chocolate into the pan and level.
  5. Place in refrigerator for 20 minutes.
  6. Melt White Chocolate in the microwave by heating at 50% for 1 minute and stirring until smooth.
  7. Add Peppermint extract to white chocolate.
  8. Pour white chocolate into the pan and level.
  9. Pour crushed peppermint over white chocolate.
  10. Place in refrigerator for 20 minutes.

Enjoy!!

Variations To Recipe

  • In this recipe, I used white and milk chocolate. I created layers, but you can do one single chocolate if you prefer not to combine different chocolate.
  • Add other toppings, crushed nuts, dried cranberries, mini M&Ms, etc.
  • You can add peppermint extract to the milk chocolate to give the chocolate itself a mint flavor if you don’t want to top it with crushed peppermint. This will give it a lot of creamy texture.
  • Sprinkle with festive sprinkles when the chocolate is wet for more color to your bark.

Can I use almond bark to replace chocolate chips?

I used baking chips in my recipe. If you don’t want to and prefer almond bark go ahead.

The almond bark melts super creamy and sets up in 5 minutes or so.

The biggest thing with almond bark is to get your sprinkled peppermint fast after you spread, or it will set up, and your mint won’t stick in the chocolate.

I just had peppermint bark (Ghirardelli) for the first time and I loved it. Now I’m on a mission to make some and so far I’ve only come across two recipes that are appealing to me. Yours is one of them and I was already thinking that I should use only Ghiraardelli chocolate. I can’t wait to make some! 🙂

This looks delicious! I am going to try it for a cookie exchange this weekend. I’m not really a baker, so I was looking for something that I could manage. About how many pieces does one batch yield? I need to make 6 1/2 dozen, so I’m wondering how many batches I should plan on. Thanks a lot 🙂
