National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February. NSCW is a time to bring awareness to the important and unique contributions school counselors make within schools. This year's theme is School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big.

I hear you listening to the pain of others. I hear you celebrating accomplishments and progress. I hear you always wanting to do more, learn more, be more. And I just want to say thank you.

ASCA has prepared sample morning announcements for you to consider using with your students as you celebrate National School Counseling Week, February 5-9. The sample messages below reflect the 2024 theme “Standards-Based, Student-Focused.”

NOTE: The state of NJ requires a full master's in counseling to become eligible for a School Counselor Certification. For students not having the clinical pre requisites required by Montclair State University's CACREP-equivalent program, additional hours might be necessary.

ASCA officials believe that by implementing these four themes of leadership, collaboration, advocacy and systemic change into the comprehensive school counseling program, school counselors can create an environment that is not only challenging for all students but also equitable.

They offer children personal, developmental and academic support throughout their school careers. At the middle school and high school level, school counselors assist adolescents in choosing their class schedules and help them prepare for the college or career path they will pursue after graduation.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 5.4% employment growth for school counselors between 2022 and 2032. In that period, an estimated 18,400 jobs should open up. School counselors provide academic, personal and developmental support to school-age children.
