If you love this twist on a childhood classic, you’ll also love: air fryer chicken nuggets, one pot mac and cheese, and breakfast pizza bagels.

Whoever decided that eating pop tarts for breakfast is socially acceptable – I love you. I grew up eating pop tarts for breakfast – 90s kids, where you at?! – but as an adult, I probably haven’t had a pop tart in 15 years. That changes today. Today, we’re making pop tarts, in the the air fryer. Air fryer strawberry pop tarts to be exact.

Ingredients

  • Refrigerated pie dough
  • Strawberry jam
  • Powdered sugar
  • Heavy cream
  • Butter
  • Vanilla extract
  • Sprinkles

Here’s the best part, these homemade pop tarts are *almost* as easy as opening a box and putting them in your toaster. The pop tarts only require TWO ingredients, they quickly air fry to golden flake-y perfection, and then get drizzled in a super simple, classic sweet icing. Oh. And don’t forget the sprinkles.

There are three parts to today’s air fryer strawberry pop tarts recipe:

  1. The crust
  2. The filling
  3. The icing

Simply cut the crust into pop tart shapes, fill with strawberry jam, and pop ’em in the air fryer. 11 minutes later, they’re done! Cool completely before drizzling in glaze and sprinkling with sprinkles.

That’s it!

While they never last this long, I’d say these homemade pop tarts are good in the fridge for about a week!

How do you store homemade pop tarts?

Store homemade pop tarts in an airtight container in the fridge to keep them fresh!

What is pop tart crust made of?

Today, we’re just using pre-made refrigerated pie crusts as the crust for the pop tart.

How do you make pop tarts in the oven?

While I haven’t personally tried this, I’d made a similar recipe in the oven. I’d suggest 400 degrees F for 10-20 minutes, or until the pie crust is golden brown and flakey!

Instructions

  • *I’d highly recommend watching the video above for visuals.

  • Use a pizza cutter to cut each crust into 4 equal-sized rectangles (mine were each 5”x3”). Combine the leftover dough, re-roll it out, and then cut 4 more rectangles. You'll have 12 total rectangles.

  • Place 1 tablespoon of strawberry jam in the center of 6 rectangles.

  • Spread the jam out to within 1/4 inch of the edge.

  • Use your finger to moisten the outside of each pie crust round with water.

  • Top each filling rectangle with another pastry rectangle.

  • Use your fingers to press the seams together, then use a fork to crimp the edges together.

  • Use a knife to poke a few slits in the top.

  • Hit “ON” on the air fryer.
Then hit “PRE-HEAT”. Set the temperature to 350 degrees F and set the timer to 11 minutes.
Hit “START”.

  • The air fryer will beep at you when it’s finished preheating.
Open up the air fryer and spray the basket with cooking spray.
Place two of the pop tarts in the basket.
Close the air fryer. It will beep at you when it’s finished cooking.
Repeat with remaining pop tarts.
Cool completely before frosting. I threw mine in the freezer for 5-10 minutes.

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, heavy cream, butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  • Spread the cooled tarts with frosting and sprinkle with sprinkles.

  • Let frosting harden in the fridge before serving.

It’s a super rough guesstimate and probably not that high, because you don’t use ALL the dough, but yes, for a large poptart, somewhere around there!
